There are three organized Guilds of professions in known space:
The Assassins Guild - Contract killers or bodyguards for hire to the highest bidder.
The Bounty Hunters' Guild - Need someone brought to you dead or alive? Here are just your scum.
The Theives' Guild - Possibly the most hated and enigmatic, theives under the guild will steal anything, except from each other.
All three have something of an understanding about blatently attacking one another, but if a job's on the line, then all bets are off. All three also have a mutual hatred of mercenaries, who will do any job, including those of the Guilds, possibly cheaper.

Why are they just the sneaky kill/steal/other illegal things?
What exactly do they each do?
What kinds of prices do they do jobs for?
Who do they do jobs for?
Do they have special internal rankings?
How do they go about doing their jobs?
What kinds of weaponry do they use? |

Are these guilds galaxy wide? Yes, instead of many variations on a theme, like with the syndicates, there are different branches of the same guild.
Why are they just the sneaky kill/steal/other illegal things? Why not?
What exactly do they each do? Assassins take contracts to kill people who can't be taken out by normal underlings or through public channels like warfare. Bounty Hunters organize the myriad huntsmen out there under a single banner as well as settle disputes between hunters. Thieves do pretty much the same as BHs, making sure group jobs are split evenly, though the Thieves Guild is a bit smaller than the other two, as being a member means you are an elite thief, there's quite an elaborate joining process.
What kinds of prices do they do jobs for? Varies from one to the other, I'd say from like, 500 credits to in the millions for a high enough profile target.
Who do they do jobs for? The rich, the lowlifes, pretty much ayone who can find a use for them discreetly.
Do they have special internal rankings? Yes, but nothing like Private, Sargeant, etc...
How do they go about doing their jobs? Sneakily. Define some specifics, like which guild, what kind of job, etc, if you want more, please. ^^
What kinds of weaponry do they use? Assassins generally just do efficient or discreet killings, Bounty Hunters have a mix of leathal/nonleathal since they may need to incapacitate a target, and the Thieves vary from person to person. _________________ Vulcans are SPACE ELVES~!!!! |

Ok, let me get this straight: you want to know why the Guilds are just your garden variety versions of what you'd expect from such? If so, then the answer is simple: it makes sense to me, at least for Assassins and BHs, the Thieves Guild I actually have a story idea for. If you want them different, cite some examples, because those are the only roles I see for them. (Limited versing in things not in Star Wars, remember?)
As for weaponry, blaster pistols/carbines/rifles, grenades, swords, daggers, shields, armor, rocket launchers, dart launchers (both lethal and non-lethal), tranq guns, injections, ANYTHING UNDER THE BLOODY GALAXY can and will be used, just to varying degrees based on the mission parameters and personality of the assassin/bounty hunter/thief. _________________ Vulcans are SPACE ELVES~!!!! |

Well, like, why isnt their like a trades guild, or an artisans guild, or such like that. Trade, Art, Craftsmanship, have just as much control over a society as theives, smugglers, and death dealers, and just as much opportunity to be unscrupulous in pursuit of their own goals. As you saw in star wars, a trade guild will go far in order to secure profitable trade routes for exclusive routes, craftsman want exsclusive use of reasources, Artists might (well, strange people anyway) going to want access to supposedly "holy " sites for the opportunity to study their archtexture, art forms, poetry, stuff the local priesthood might object too. Really this gives your sydicate guys trying to control everything more to work on, because then if they control all the sydicates, and all the guilds, they would control nearly every major motivating force in the galaxy. Just a random, late night/early morning thought. I probably wont remember typing this. Right then. Well for now we'll go wit hthe unposted idea of the syndicates running the legitimate guilds from behind the scenes, or most of them, anyway. More to come later. _________________ Vulcans are SPACE ELVES~!!!! |
